So it wasn't that he was flippant, it was that he just didn't understand why Peter didn't see it as inevitable. Maybe it was his beliefs, we are born and we die and we go to purgatory. We'll see them again one day. It was a bunch of bullshit mostly, because Matt was desperate to touch Peter. He would give any reason for his disaffection in death.
